What to Wear to Milford Sound

Deck exposure and wind

The cruise boat has deck seating, which is where you want to be for photos and wildlife. But the decks are open and windy, and spray from the water is common near Stirling Falls. A rain jacket shields you from spray and wind chill. Leave the cotton sweater at home; it holds moisture and makes you colder. Merino wool or synthetic base layers wick sweat and stay warm even wet.

Sandflies: the real threat

Sandflies live at the Milford foreshore and bite exposed skin. They are small, nearly invisible, and the bites itch for hours.
